A doppler scan, or ultrasound, is a non-invasive test that measures blood flow – or its absence – through blood vessels. Doppler scans work by bouncing high-frequency sound waves off of your circulating red blood cells. These vascular flow studies can detect any abnormal blood flow through veins, arteries and vessels, if present.
Doppler scans can help diagnose disorders, such as deep vein thrombosis, blood clots, blocked arteries, heart valve defects and even congenital heart disease. These are not regular scans and should only be considered in consultation with your doctor or a specialist physician.
